Our project "Lun Yu - Kant" is trying to find attempts
for a subtle logical interface between
the philosophy of Immanuel Kant and the thinking of Confucius, as
it is handed down to us
in that collection of 499 verses.
What we are interested in are maxims of behaviour, as they are implicated
there and
explorable with Kant in mind. Doing this our project is related
to the moral psychology
of Confucius and the third thesis of Zhang Qizhi. We say, it is
a question of emotional
intelligence.
In Germany emotional intelligence is not part of normal school teaching.
We are not glad
about this. Especially rhetorical training would help kids and teens
to get courage and
face. Kant himself gave lectures of rhetoric. In the Lun Yu we find
hints of strong rhetorical
practice. Implicated maxims there we want to compare with maxims
of conversation as
they are consistent with Kant´s logic. This way logic and
behaviour are supporting the
propension of emotions.
The logical interface we are working on shall give respect to both
well civilized old men.
In a logical and emotional sense it may be a contribution to a culture
of understanding.
